There are many challenges that students encounter as they make the transition from high school to college. During the junior and senior high school years, students must decide to which colleges apply, based on their interests, academic achievements, personal skills, and finances. The transition to college is far more challenging for students with disabilities. These students need to consider the accommodations and services that they can receive from different colleges to more easily overcome their impairments. In order to facilitate the transition from high school to college and spark the students’ interest in science and engineering, Prof. Alex Leonessa and Raffaella De Vita organize almost every year a two-day long STEMABILITY summer camp for high school students with disabilities, who have expressed some interest in a career in science and engineering.
